One of the main sights to see while in Rome would have to be the Trevi Fountain, not only is it a world renown landmark but it is absolutely free. It is set in the cobbled stone streets in Trevi Square, right in the heart of Rome’s historic centre. The Fountain itself was commissioned by Pope Clement X11 in 1732 after the original plans were dismissed by the previous Pope, designed by Nicola Salvi and then took thirty years to build. It is a Baroque design with Neptune, the god of the sea as the central figure riding a shell shaped chariot being drawn by two sea horses. It is a truly magnificent site and has even appeared in several movies in past years. It is a perfect place to sit and relax and study it’s amazing architecture and it is open twenty four hours a day.
