The Fountain itself was commissioned by Pope Clement X11 in 1732 after the original plans were dismissed by the previous Pope, designed by Nicola Salvi and then took thirty years to build. It is a Baroque design with Neptune, the god of the sea as the central figure riding a shell shaped chariot being drawn by two sea horses. It is a truly magnificent site and has even appeared in several movies in past years. The Pantheon

The Pantheon should be high on anyone’s list of things to see while in Rome, a remarkable building which is two thousand years old. Admission to this very historic Temple is completely free to the public , which makes it even more worthwhile to visit. The word Pantheon is the name for the collection of gods, who’s statues were once worshipped here all those years ago. Located in the Piazza Dell Rotonda and is the best preserved building in the city, as you walk up to the massive bronze doors, which are among very few to have survived from ancient times, you will be taken back to those times as you gaze in awe at it’s magnificent splendour .
